The LEGO® minifigure is an icon in its own right, an avatar on which we project ourselves within the brick world. I find designing custom minifigures to be as creative and stimulating as any other brick art.
But characters can exist at bigger scale, too: several of my favorite characters I've designed have been larger-scale constructible action figures. These warriors, adventurers, and creatures inhabit fantastic realms of their own.
Building characters in either medium means using, for much of a build, a different system and geometry than standard bricks. I like having to adjust my mentality away from structural/gap-filling concerns and more towards shape, posing, and interpretive color. I think of the characters I create in both minifigure and larger scale as fun side projects and neat display items!
